H2O Power is issuing a flood and high flows watch to all users along the upper Abitibi River
System. At the time of this communication, Lake Abitibi was observed at 265.219 m (CGD); 17
cm below the flood allowance. Inflow & outflow conditions throughout the upper Abitibi River
system are at or above the 90th percentile. With current hydrological conditions, the lake level is
forecasted to peak by mid-week following Victoria Day.
To manage the rising lake level, higher than normal discharges are occurring at Twin Falls GS and
Iroquois Falls GS. This will result in much higher than normal flows through the upper Abitibi
River, extending into Lake Abitibi.
H2O Power strongly advises all users to exercise extreme caution, appropriate due care and reconsider use of activities on Lake Abitibi and the Abitibi River System.
