H2O Power is issuing a flood and high flows watch to all users along the upper Abitibi River System. At the time of this communication, Lake Abitibi was observed at 265.092 m (CGD); 30 cm below the flood allowance. Inflow & outflow conditions throughout the upper Abitibi River system at this time of year are above the 90th percentile and is near the 75th percentile spring flow condition.
To manage the rising lake level, higher than normal discharges are occurring at Twin Falls GS, Black River, Iroquois Falls GS and Island Falls GS. This will result in much higher-than-normal flows through the upper Abitibi River, extending into Lake Abitibi.
H2O Power strongly advises all users to exercise extreme caution, appropriate due care and re-consider use of activities on Lake Abitibi and the Abitibi River System.
H2O Power’s flood watch advisory is effective Friday, November 11, 2022 and is expected to remain active for the next 14 calendar days. Any changes to this advisory will be posted on our public website.
